EV Cost by State

About this site

EV Cost by State is an independent site run by Sang Lee. It isn't affiliated with Tesla, any utility or any government agency.

Where the numbers come from

State averages are updated automatically every week: home electricity prices (the latest 12 months) and gas prices from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, and state EV incentives as listed by the U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center. Each page shows the source and date.

Utility pages, starting with Virginia, go further: rates, overnight plans and rebates are checked by hand against each utility's official pages, as described below.

How utility data is checked

  1. Every program links to its official source.
  2. A weekly automated check compares our records with the U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center and flags any differences.
  3. Each number is confirmed against the official page before it's published, and the date of that check is shown next to it.
  4. Anything not re-verified in 60 days is marked as possibly out of date, and it's removed after 90 days.

Tesla referral codes

The Tesla referral codes page is free for any owner. Codes are shown at random and retire after 10 uses. Nobody can pay for a better spot.
